Police officers heard shooting at about 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Ninth Avenue, according to a news release from the Rock Island Police Department. No one was reported injured. Johnny D. Matthews Jr. Johnny D. Matthews Jr., 23, of Rock Island, faces a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm in relation to the shooting, records show. Prosecutors allege he fired a .357-caliber handgun at a vehicle he reasonably should have known was occupied. After his arrest and police read him his Miranda rights, Matthews told investigators he fired the revolver at the car to protect himself because gunfire came from the car first, court records state. Rock Island officers also arrested two other men during the investigation. They have been identified as Isaiah Trueblood, 19; and Deshawn M. L. Mapp, 47. Court records state that authorities also received calls from several people who reported five or six shots in the area. When officers reached the scene, they saw a Chevrolet Suburban coming out of the alleyway between Ninth and 10th avenues and 14th and 15th streets, records state. Police saw three people inside. The driver made several quick turns before going to an address in the 900 block of 15th Street, records state. Police stopped it in the back yard. One person ran away, while another went into the residence, records state. When police entered the residence to conduct what documents described as a protective sweep, they found Matthews and Mapp. Authorities think Matthews was in the backyard of the residence when the gunfire occurred. Police collected several statements from people besides Matthews about how the shooting unfolded, records state. There are differences in the details of those accounts. One account placed Matthews in the backyard when a dark-colored sedan drove up in the alley, records state. An argument began between Matthews and the three occupants of the vehicle. After the argument began, Matthews drew a pistol and fired twice, according to this account. The front passenger of the car got out and shot back before running away. The car then left. Trueblood, who was also read his Miranda rights before speaking with police, told officers that a sedan with three people inside pulled up behind the residence. Trueblood said he gave the revolver to Matthews and Matthews fired it. At one point, Trueblood told police the occupants of the sedan shot first, but at another, he said he heard too many shots and was unsure if anyone else was shooting. It was unclear in the court documents in what sequence Trueblood gave these statements. When Matthews spoke to investigators, he told them he had an encounter with people in the sedan but said at least one person in that vehicle shot first, court records state. He also told police Trueblood gave him the handgun and that he fired it at the sedan. Isaiah Trueblood Prosecutors filed a single count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon against Trueblood, who is from Milan, records state. Underlying the charge are allegations that Trueblood had the handgun without having a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card. Deshawn M. L. Mapp The state’s attorney’s office charged Mapp, of Douglasville, Georgia, with one count of possession of a controlled substance, records state. Prosecutors allege Mapp had less than 200 grams of a substance containing psilocybin. Online court documents state Matthews’ detention hearing occurred on Monday afternoon, but the records did not provide clear detail of what occurred. The Rock Island County Jail website listed Matthews as still in custody as of Tuesday morning. Another court date has been set for Dec. 31, records state. The Rock Island County Jail did not have Trueblood or Mapp listed as in custody as of Tuesday. Telsey Advisory Group Issues Positive Forecast for Urban Outfitters (NASDAQ:URBN) Stock PriceHow AI can support neurodiverse studentsThe New York Jets have had very few things go right for them in 2024. At 3-8, New York has an extremely slim chance of making the playoffs with six weeks remaining. A massive reason for the Jets' disappointing season has been the play of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. At 40 years old, Rodgers simply has not looked like the same player he did earlier in his career. Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images Although he hasn't missed a game, Rodgers has spent plenty of time this season on the injury report with multiple ailments. Earlier in the week, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Rodgers refused medical scans earlier in the season so that he wouldn't miss any time. During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers directly addressed those rumors. "There was no mandate ever, 'You gotta get this scan,' and I was like 'I ain't (expletive) getting a scan.' It was, 'Listen, how do you feel?' I told them, 'I know my body well. What do you see in your diagnosis? What are the risks of playing? What is the likelihood of playing? What do I have to do to get back?' And that was that," said Rodgers. Related: Is Shedeur vs. Cam as Jets' Draft Move Perfectly Clear? There wasn't any weirdness around it," continued Rodgers. "We had a lot of great conversations where they diagnosed what I was dealing with. I told them how I was feeling. We talked about the possibilities of playing and rehab and what it would take." Many Jets fans will likely hope that Rodgers is telling the truth, as his refusing medical scans would certainly be a bad look for an organization that has already struggled in the past with dysfunctional leadership. Justin Baldoni Sued by Former Publicist Over Breach of Contract By Amidst an ongoing complaint levied , has been sued by his former publicist, who alleges he breached his contract earlier this year. What is Justin Baldoni being sued for? Steph Jones, who owns the public relations firm Jonesworks, accused Baldoni of breaching their contract earlier this year. The contract, which says Baldoni must pay her $25,000 a month, was allegedly breached after Baldoni dropped the firm in August, and joined a firm started by Jennifer Abel, who also worked at Jonesworks and left to start her own firm. Alongside the lawsuit against Baldoni, Jones is also suing Abel and Baldoni’s publicist Melissa Nathan, joining Blake Lively in accusing the pair of coordinating a . Jones’ lawsuit alleges that the pair are attempting to blame her for the campaign. “To this day, Abel and Nathan continue to point the finger falsely at Jones now that their own misconduct is coming to light, and to defame and attack Jones in the industry,” the lawsuit states (via ). In the case of Lively and Baldoni, this past week, Lively alleging him of sexual harassment and of coordinating an effort to destroy her reputation. In Lively’s claims, she states that things got so bad during filming that an all-hands-on-deck meeting was called due to her claims of a hostile work environment. During the meeting, Lively asked that Baldoni stop showing her nude videos or images of women, that he stop mentioning his pornography addiction to her, that Baldoni stop discussing sexual experiences in front of her, and that he also stop mentioning Lively’s weight. The complaint also claims that an agreement was made between production company Wayfarer Studios and the cast, in which the promotion of the movie would focus “more on [Lively’s character’s] strength and resilience as opposed to describing the film as a story about domestic violence.” However, Lively claims that Baldoni would renege on that and instead spoke in interviews about the film’s serious story. Lively also claimed that Baldoni and his PR manager, Melissa Nathan, discussed ways in which to start a social media campaign to harm her reputation. The filing by Lively includes 22 pages of texts between Baldoni’s publicist and Nathan, in which they discuss wanting to have Lively “buried.” Anthony Nash has been writing about games and the gaming industry for nearly a decade. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck (elbow) is expected to miss the team's College Football Playoff quarterfinal game at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, On3 reported Thursday. That means backup Gunner Stockton is in line to start the knockout round game, when the Bulldogs face either No. 7 seed Notre Dame or No. 10 seed Indiana. Beck, the Bulldogs' starter all year, missed most of the second half of the Southeastern Conference title game with an injury to the UCL in his right (throwing) elbow. Stockton helped guide the Bulldogs to a 22-19 overtime win over Texas and clinch a first-round bye in the first 12-team playoff. On3 reported that Beck has not practiced or been with the team since it returned to workouts late last week. It is unknown whether Beck would be ready to return for the semifinal round if the Bulldogs make it that far. Beck has thrown for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season, his second as Georgia's starting quarterback. --Field Level MediaThe Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team has gotten off to a fast start this season in more ways than one. The No. 16 Bearcats have raced to a 5-0 record while outscoring their opponents by more than 31 points per game, with just one team (Northern Kentucky) coming within 16 points. Cincinnati is averaging a robust 87 points per game with one of the more efficient offenses in college basketball. Cincinnati will look to continue that hot streak when it plays host to Alabama State in nonconference action Wednesday evening. Cincinnati has punished opposing defenses in a variety of ways this season. Despite being the No. 14 offense in the nation in Ken Pomeroy's efficiency ratings, the Bearcats aren't among the nation's leaders in pace. Still, they take advantage of those opportunities when they are there. "Us playing fast is something we want to do," Cincinnati forward Dillon Mitchell said. "When I was being recruited here, that was something Coach (Wes) Miller wanted to do. "There could be games where we're not making shots or something is off, but one thing is we're gonna push the ball, play hard and play fast. That's something he preaches. We'll be in shape and get rebounds." Mitchell is fresh off a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in Cincinnati's 81-58 road win at Georgia Tech Saturday. He is one of four Bearcats to average double figures in scoring this season. That balance was on display once again against the Yellow Jackets, with Connor Hickman and Jizzle James also scoring 14 points each and Simas Lukosius contributing 12 points. In that game, Cincinnati sank 51.6 percent of its shots while regularly getting out into transition with 16 fastbreak points, while winning the rebounding battle 36-29. "Any time you get a road win over a quality, Power 4 team, you're gonna feel good about it," Miller said. "I was pleased with our effort." Lukosius is scoring 16.6 points per game, while James is at 14.0 points, followed by Mitchell at 12.4, while he also grabs a team-best 8.6 rebounds. Alabama State (3-3) has a tough task ahead, especially when considering its 97-78 loss at Akron Sunday, which ended a three-game winning streak. The Hornets allowed the Zips to shoot 46.4 percent from the field and were 53-32 in the rebounding battle. Alabama State gave up a season high in points, after playing the likes of LSU and UNLV earlier this season. Akron standout Nate Johnson lit up Alabama State for 25 points, as the game got away from the Hornets in the second half to keep them winless in true road games. Alabama leading scorers CJ Hines and TJ Madlock still got theirs against Akron, scoring 19 and 17 points, respectively. They were joined in double figures by reserve Tyler Mack (18 points), but recent history says they'll need more help to keep up with the Bearcats. Hines leads the Hornets with 15.7 points per game, while Madlock contributes 14.5 points. In previous Akron Basketball Classic wins last week against Omaha and Lamar, Alabama State featured at least four double-digit scorers in each game. --Field Level Media
Zepto raises $350 million from domestic investorsTransportation and hybrid virtual health are among the top needs for rural medical patients in B.C, according to a recent rural healthcare event. On Nov. 20 and 27, the Rural Coordination Center of BC hosted its Rural Voices event engaging with over 500 diverse community members from local physicians to every day residents. Conversations focused on ways to improve rural health. "What really stood out is the resilience and positivity and willingness of communities to take action on these issues themselves," said Alice Muirhead, RCcbc's director of outreach and engagement. Transportation solutions mentioned by participants included volunteer-based transportation connecting multiple communities, mobile health vans, and helicopter services. Attendees brought up sometimes overlooked details such as much-needed but non-urgent care access, and the need for financial assistance following treatment. "A person might have funding to transport them to urgent acute care, but sometimes it's not covered for them to return to their community," Muirhead said. Participants discussed enhancing virtual care options such as online or Telehealth appointments, as well as accessible online records. "This is the idea that maybe you see a doctor or nurse practitioner or a nurse in your community face to face on their schedule, but you also have access to that person virtually, so you build a relationship in person, and you're building trust with the same person over time, but you're able to access them more frequently because of those virtual modes of care." In terms of enhancing such remote-based care, participants spoke of data systems that can communicate with one another, such as a centralized system for all healthcare providers. "There's a lot of challenges to sharing patient information between health authorities, between clinics, between levels of care," Muirhead added. "So, a lot of people talked about the need for improved technology solutions to share information in a way that's still private, confidential and safe, but that enables better care." Additionally, many highlighted a desire for collaboration and empowered patients. "These are really big, complex systems, and change takes time. So, I think there is a lot of positive momentum. There's a lot of people trying to do things in different, more positive ways. It just takes a lot of time." Canada is large with many communities outside of city centres. Muirhead compared rural health access to other community and infrastructure needs and access. "There isn't sort of a big box store down the road where they can buy everything they need. They're used to sort of making do with what they have. And I think the same is true for health and wellness. RCCbc will be releasing summaries of Rural Voices, aiming to share gathered ideas with the Ministry of Health, health authorities, and organizations across the province.
